Green Grass

It’s been a while. How have you been?

Writer’s block is such a cliche excuse, yet here I am, with nothing better than the truth. Not even my stream of consciousness writing (Dear Subconscious,) could save me. I did try it, and everything I wrote was just sad so I decided to spare you and refrain from posting it. I might eventually anyway, we’ll see.

So yes, it’s been a while.

But I’m a firm believer in optimism, and as the weather warms up the times begin to change.

I switched jobs, which threw everything into disarray. My early mornings switched to late nights, and my quiet confidence in what I was doing turned back to the awkward uncertainty of a fresh job. I barely went to the gym, I barely went to uni, and I barely saw my friends.

It isn’t exactly as though I was replacing these things with work, or anything else- they just stopped happening. I didn’t notice the rut I was falling into until I’d manage to clamber out of it.

Today I paid a deposit towards my trip to Europe for Christmas 2017. I called the gym and confirmed their opening hours, and I’ve set an alarm. I have plans with my friends, and uni is out of my mind for a little while (I’ll explain my Tri 2 fiasco later). Everything’s settling down, and moving back into a healthy routine.

Everybody falls down. Sometimes you get up quickly, and sometimes it takes a while. Sometimes you bruise your ego. That’s okay. When life gets really chaotic, I like to write stuff out. It isn’t always fit to post here- sometimes I post it anyway.  But it’s important to know your mind. Figure out what it is that needs to be done, and do it.

There’s always a way to something better. The grass isn’t greener on the other side. There are no sides. The grass is green where you put in the effort to water it. Find your motivation and do hard things.

Shake it off:

1. Drink water

2. Drink green tea (completely optional but recommended with bias)

3. Sit outside, and be present

4. Do something difficult, and rewarding

5.  Write something worth reading

6. Read something worth writing

7. Learn something

8. Talk to a friend

9. Talk to a stranger

10. Realise what you’re grateful for
