(sans) Rain

I hope rain is the summer soundtrack.

It’s raining now. Not enough to help, really, but enough that the little kids know what rain is, technically, and everyone can smile when they bump into each other at the shop.

“How are you?”

“It’s raining!” Which means, I have hope!

I hope rain is the summer soundtrack, because I’m scared it will be fire. I’m scared it’s starving animals and burnt trees and evacuated towns, and the all night sirens on the back roads.

It’s a countdown to no water, stretched thin, and then stolen when the fires spread through and the water turns to dust.

The rain has already stopped, without dropping even another day or two of water in the tank.
